I also want to try total commander but the link to the necessary files is not working and am not shure about how to get this working

I have a windows machine with windowserver 2012 on it

Here are the files from 2012.  The only issue I'm finding is that there is no button bar (even though selected in options), so cannot drag shortcuts to it.  Maybe Marcin could update it to a new version?

Instead of TC, why not use Q-Dir? It's free.

Might give it another try.

It is up and running,

RDSU, use the reg files to navigate between explorer and no explorer

Just doubleclick on Shell_TC.reg and restart your computer for totalcommand

to go back to standard windows shell, double-click on shell.reg and reboot

to go back to standard windows shell, double-click on shell.reg and reboot

The two registry files cannot be used for Q-Dir, as they are designed for TC.

It's time to revive this thread. I'm building a new Audio PC. I always used intel or Supermicro server boards as I've found them better sounding than all consumer type motherboards I had. This time I decided to try Tyan.

Attached File  22218296_355146984912614_3263893306098063147_o.jpg   220.76KB   15 downloads

Other components for this build are:

- Intel Xeon E3-1240L v5 (quad core, @2.1GHz, max TDP of 25W, no GPU)

- 2x4GB Apacer ECC DDR4 UDIMM RAM - industrial grade, extended temp. range (-40 - +85)

- JCAT NET Card FEMTO (connects directly to JCAT NET in Control PC)

- JCAT USB Card FEMTO (connects to my APL DSD-M USB DAC)

- OCXO CF-SATA adapter /w 32GB Apacer SLC CF card for OS - industrial grade, extended temp. range (-40 - +85)

- JCAT Reference SATA cable (will be released this month)

- 400W ATX Linear Power Supply (to power the PC and JCAT cards)

- Audio PC Chassis for JCAT: Ltd Edition (passive cooling on heatsinks)

OS will be W2016 Server Core. I will use a PCI-e graphic card during installation and configuration stage. After that, the PCI-e GPU will be removed and the PC will be headless.

I'll keep you posted how the PC performs once I finish the project. My previous build was identical except for the motherboard which was intel S1200SPS. Will be interesting to see how Tyan (S5545AG2NR-HE) performs in comparison to intel.

Interesting! :)

Will your CF adapter work with that PCH? Do you run it with AHCI instead of IDE?

I run in IDE, but AHCI is also not bad if you install latest driver for the SATA controller: https://downloadcent...-?product=55005

This would be my preference for Control PC as, in my opinion, IDE is too slow for Control PC.

You run it with IDE...

With that clarification I’m back to a several years old dilemma that was never solved.

I have used S1200V3RPS and this server board had something called “compatibility mode” and it does not work with any CF, at least not that i have try.

It seems that this old case should be reviewed again.

Hi Marcin

You have hinted sometimes that your CF adapter work even with newer serverboards, such as those with chipset over C20x. But mine and some others don’t do that, unfortunately. I'm trying to find out the reason for it. For the moment I can see only one thing that differs between our setups: you use a compact flash card with Extended Temperature, and I don’t. Do you think this can be the key? Or you have other ideas?

I assume you are using that PPA adapter that’s in the shop.

Best regards

Tomas

Yes, I'm using the OCXO Cf-SATA adapter. I doubt it's the Extended Temperature that make it work. It must be sth else.

I suppose your CF card is not detected in BIOS? Have you tried connecting the adapter to SATA 3Gbps slot on the motherboard (if you have any)?

Thanks for your quick reply.

As I said earlier in this thread; this is an old known problem for me (and some others users).

I have both 3 and 6 Gb/s slots of several serverboards I've tried. I described this already 2014 in this thread. Normally I use 3 because it gives better SQ. And it gives no crucial differences between them regarding boot.

Sometimes I can recognize CF in bios, and in this case it happens it will boot. But quite soon the system locks, it barely comes through the start sequence of Windows. But it also happens time to time that it gets through completely and Windows runs. But this only happens with the TCXO adapter, OCXO doesn't work at all. Only motherboard my OCXO work with is my current S1200KPR.

Paul Pang himself say the CF-adapter will not work with newer chipset without true-IDE settings. But despite this, yours works. That's what I'm wondering about.

And because newer serverboards often will give higher SQ, it's important for me.

I'm also always running IDE. But iDE or AHCI doesn't matter in this case.

I am building my own design, motherboard over a thick piece of 150 years old wood from an old piano, electronics inside an aluminum case faraday cage type, etc
