There're lots of them out there due to their popularity, but I'd like to get the best sounding ones. I know it's subjective, but still I want to know your favorite version(s). Choices of conductor, orchestra, recording label, all matters.

Thank you guys.  I've found 3 of them on Amazon.  The 4th recommendation, Mozart's last symphonies, will have to be ordered from ArkivMusic.

I'm listening to Walter's Beethoven Symphony 5 now. A truly superb sounding recording even in CD format (I ripped it directly onto controlPC's music SSD). Thank you Marcin.

Just curiously, how do I take advantage of the DSD format of the disk?

You need to rip the SACD layer using PS3 or selected BD players. I have not done it myself, but there are many guides on Computer Audiophile

I have a PS3 but don't know if or how to make it work. I've also heard of OPPO BD player that can do it. Anyway, this a great recording that I know I will go to very often.

Adrian, I really like the P. H.'s Beethoven Symphony 9 you recommended. Thanks.

I've got two great sounding Beethoven 9 and 5 CDs, now I want more. Please give your take on Chopin (any recording, mostly piano anyway), and Beethoven sonatas. Thank you.

Chopin soundwise (but also good performances):

- The Complete Nocturnes – Gergely Bogányi (SACD)

- Works For Piano And Orchestra – Nelson Goerner, Frans Brüggen

Thanks bodiebill and Adrian. Let's see if I can find them on Amazon, then somewhere else. The photos look nice and are helpful.

Adrian, I'm listening to the ARCHIV Mozart 40 CD rip now and beginning to appreciate it more. Thanks again.
