Phil, did you try to switch between modes in RAM windows ? I wanted to go core, but instead servicetool converted it to full GUI. At the moment I would not suggest to switch modes in RAM windows. All the rest, works great.

Hi Phil,

I had installed Bughead V4.70 on my controlPC in W2012-core (V1.3b9). I now first installed your new V1.2b10, then ran audio-optimizer again (in core mde). But now I cannot install Bughead V4.73. It refuses to be installed, because it detects an older version. I can delete the program folder of Bughead V4.70, but that does not help. A "formal" de-install seems to be required. How can I do that in W2012-core?

I found a solution. I thought that I had deleted the install-Bughead V4.70 completely from my computers, but I didn't. So I started install-V4.70 and then I was asked If I wanted to delete V4.70. I did so and then I could install V4.73. To me it seems to be a design failure of the Bughead-Install program. You can only delete the program with the SAME VERSION as you used for installing it. NOT with the next version. The next version does NOT offer to delete the previous version : be warned! You cannot download a previous version AFAIK.

- Enables HQPlayer in core mode
- Enables TIDAL in core mode (not yet useful, WASAPI in core not yet ready)
- Support for JPLAY 6
- Possibility to disable JPLAYStreamer Service via AO
- JPLAY Service no longer set to automatic start during optimization
- Short names now support capital letters (e.g. "ao -u" and "ao -U" )
- Display stand-by now also possible after 1 minute
- WMI Service not disabled after changing Sound Signature & Digital-Filters
- Better MediaPlayer support in core mode (oledlg.dll for 2012 & 2012 R2)
- AO disables Java Auto Update
- Small bug fixes & cosmetics

ServiceTool 1.51b7

- New Compacting Feature
- Set Bug head Emperor/Infinity Blade as shell
- Set Fidelizer Pro as Shell
- Set TIDAL as Shell
- Set HQPlayer as Shell
- Firewall Service no longer set to automatic start after reset via ServiceTool
- A few cosmetics

Setup 1.31
- Various Updates
- Start JPLAYmini from any path by typing "jm" and enter

Probably we will see one more beta and that will probably be it for 1.31. I don't want to hold up the relase of 1.31 because of Windows Server vNext. The beta testing of Windows Server vNext (Tech Preview 2) will seamlessly continue with 1.32b1.

It's not yet urgent to have support for Windows Server vNext, but the day it will be finaly available i want to be more than just ready for it. In Windows 10 and Server vNext many things are different than they were in the past, there are also a lot of new things, new potential for new optimisations, all that will take some time so it's just better to start early with the development.

Beta 11 is online and available now via our homepage -> https://www.highend-...pc.com/download

...please be so kind and also click the Facebook button :-) Thanks in advance!

Enjoy,
Phil

Great stuff. Thanks Phil. Does this version affect SQ anyhow?

Since so many changes coming out in various Audio tools I am starting to be worried if it may decrease SQ at some point.

The latest AO beta 11 works really well with Fidelizer Pro and JPLAY on audio PC. Setting up and configuring AO went smoothly in core mode, then the PC quickly reboots, starts, and is ready for music playing. Since my control PC is still running Windows 8.1, there's no AO on it, but instead there're Fidelizer Pro, BHE, JPLAY, and Process Lasso. The dual PC setup works and sounds pretty good.

Thank you AudioPhil for the continued efforts.

Hi Folks

Just a minor update, 1.31 beta 11a is now online. There was some work for the new compacting feature. The compacting feature will free up a few hundred MB more and it will also work 100% correct (in terms of NTFS compression) on the first run.

What is the background? All previous versions of AO disabled the possibility to use compression on file system level. So if one downloaded one of the previous 1.31 betas on a system which was already optimized by any older version of AO, the Compacting Tool ran fine but was not able to use the NTFS compression. The workaround at that time was to run the very latest AO at least one time before using the Compacting Feature.

From now on the needed change to re-enable the compression feature will be made from setup.exe. Since the reset via ServiceTool at the end of the setup will also make a reboot, everything will be fine and ready on the first run of the compacting Tool even without running the latest version of AO before.

You can also use Process Lasso. The installer works nicely in core mode. Be sure to use the Server Version of Process Lasso and make 100% sure you install it as service during setup (Governor Mode). The "Install Kernel-Streaming and MediaPlayer" Feature will make sure the GUI of Process Lasso will also fire up fine in core mode.

Enjoy,
Phil

Something triggered me to write this, please pardon me if it is not the best place to put it.

Jriver was the first audiophile software I bought 2 years ago. Having just found this hobby of computer audio, I was very excited with it's capabilities. This was Media Center 18. I upgraded to 19 and 20 when it was time and felt I would always support its development.

In the meantime my system grew to a 2 pc streamer with WS2012/Ao and Jplay. Wow, what a nice upgrade and I was on my way. Along the way i started getting those annoying Hoax popups and was thinking; "WHY?" I will still use Jriver, there is no reason to disparage a complimentary program. Then came the day they removed support completely. This was the end for me. I was not going backwards. Jplay was an integral part of my system. I was forced to abandon Jriver.
It was a good thing in the long run. I used other players: Foobar, then Jplay mini, then HQplayer, then my favorite of all Bug Head Emperor/Infinity Blade SQ. Wow, amazing sound quality by this Japanese genius, Hiroyuki Yokota.

I now use 5 programs in my setup. It is a WS2012/AO/ Jplay/ Fidelizer Pro/ Process Lasso all with My Bug Head - absolutely stunning sound quality. It's funny using all these software programs but somehow they all have a role to play and work very well together.

The best thing is the spirit of cooperation among the developers:
Audiophile optimizer - AudioPhil
Jplay - Josef and Marcin
Fidelizer Pro - Windows X (
Keetakawee Punpeng)
Bug Head - Yokota Hiroyuki
Process Lasso - Jeremy Collake
These amazing, like-minded developers put the advancement of computer audio technology and their customer's experience first. I have had personal contact with each one and have seen them work with me and each other. It makes me feel like part of this community that has the same goal in mind, better sound quality for all. It has restored my faith in the fellowship we should have with each other.

No one has helped me more than Audiophil, but Josef comes close. Thanks guys, I love this hobby

Franran, well said. For lack of time I feel rather confused about all that new progs and their issues.

Btw, when I first read your post there were still some more phrases that now have disappeared. Brave New World :-)

The "Install Kernel-Streaming and MediaPlayer" Feature will make sure the GUI of Process Lasso will also fire up fine in core mode.

Thanks Phil! I've been sure to mention the 'Install Kernel-Steaming and Mediplayer' requirement when using Process Lasso with AO in core mode in the docs I'm drafting here: Process Lasso for Audiophiles Guide DRAFT . At least, if they want to use the GUI.

Once the guide is complete, I'll move it to https://bitsum.com/ao/, and it's not far from being complete.

As for file system compression, I should note that quite often the reduced overhead of disk I/O (due to smaller data) outweighs the minimal decompression overhead. That's just common knowledge, but I wanted to clarify it. Lossless compression is one of my areas of expertise.

In almost all algorithms, including the one NTFS uses, decompression is *extremely* rapid. The only real overhead is in compression. Thus, the decision to use file system compression depends on the particular user's needs, but I would recommend leaving it available for selective use by the user. You wouldn't want to compress a file or folder that has heavy write activity, but *might* want to compress a file or folder that is seldom written to, and has a high compression ratio, as it would save lots of disk I/O and cost only a few CPU cycles.

For example, it would make sense to compress the program files folder since it is seldom written to, and often read from.

Of course, it goes without saying that multimedia that's been processed by a lossy compression algorithm like MP3 can not be further compressed, and will be a worst-case scenario for lossless compression algorithms. Again, common knowledge, but maybe not to everyone.

It's exciting to integrate with this community. I look forward to hearing more feedback on our efforts.

Hi,

It was said on here some time ago - 'I am interested in music and hifi - I don't want be a computer expert ! '

I can only agree - however, the support on this forum from developers and fellow audiophiles is fantastic. I don't understand some of the technicalities ( Jeremy and his Process Lasso flies straight over my head ! ) but I like to try stuff and see if it works for me in my system.

Thanks to Jplay, Computer Audiophile, Tir Na and others for creating such friendly and supportive forums !

Hi all, I just installed JPlay trial and will be purchasing soon, but was curious if I need to re-run AO for any JPlay specific features/optimizations? I'm getting this current single-PC setup ready to put into Core mode and at that point, I'll build a new Control PC, both of which will be outside my listening room. Fun times ahead. But, before I make a new image of my AudioPC, I figured I should see about AO optimizations re: Jplay. After that I'll work on Fidelizer and, finally, Process Lasso. I swore I wouldn't be "that guy" that had 6 applications going to listen to a single song but frankly, if you just work with each one individually, it's not complicated (so far :) )

Thanks

Hi

The most impotant part is to run AO again after you switched to core mode. Regarding JPLAY it's better to install JPLAY first, then run AO (so it can detect JPLAY and offer according options).

Hi Martin

There never ever was an AO release without update guide. And mostly, the guide is also the hold up. And so it is this time as well... :) It is very important to have a proper documentation!

Otherwise i could not tell people to RTFM ;)

Thu guide is currently reviewed and checked by a writer living in the US. Once i get it back i will have the final work of checking everythin again and compile the new package. The aimed

release date for AO 1.40 (assuming all goes well and in time) is the 1st of August, swiss national day.

Best,

Phil
