Hi,

I would like to know, how I should setup my laptop (with hdmi-output) in order to be able to run jplay (with foobar 0.8.3) through hdmi-cable directly into my dac Nad M51 which has hdmi input?

What should be the settings for foobar?

Which device should be selected in jplay-settings

Would this be a real I2S connection?

I would like to compare this to spdif input trough jkspdif Mk2 device and "hopefully" get an even better sound /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif

Thanks for advices,

Dan

Hi Dan,    You should set foobar according to our manual: jplay.eu/manual and in jplay settings choose HDMI KS or WASAPI for 'playing via' (not sure if KS is supported in this case)

JPLAY for iOS: the new reference hi-fi app.

IMO not different than any other audio device as long as it has wasapi, asio or ks drivers. If it does I expect it to show up in the "playing via" settings. - Aleg

Hi Bubusia,

I've got it running through HDMI since last October or november. Since then I just don't come often to forums anymore so only notice your post.

I use JRiver 17 with the JPay pluggin and JRemote. All works flawlessly up to the 192KHZ files I have. And I run to it as often as time allows.

I run version 4.3A of JPlay and indeed the "playing via" setting is on: Wasapi Via High Definition Audio

I did try once the later version 5 when it came out but without success. I figured they are now too caught up in USB and mutliple PC land /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif  Though I could be completely wrong! /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif

I expected quite dreadful sound reading about HDMI but my ears told me the opposite (in my system). I posted my surprise here at that time: http://jplay.eu/forum/computer.....38;ret=all

Logic or not I happen to like that setup. Still.

Maybe one more point to note. The only setting that does not work here is Hibernate mode.

It worked without a glitch with USB and SPDIF settups of JPlay I have used in the past but doesn't over HDMI.

What I haven't yet tried in this setup are the newer DSD files. I will probably very soon.

hi ivc   just managed to make it work through hdmi-using jriver, soundwise its really good, better than usb through various config., with or without usb/spdif convert. Now i can say its exactly the same/v close sound as the sbt touch edo.   just comparing sbt/edo/ifiusb power as the power source for sbt with computer/hdmi/river and its hard to distinguish the two, great sound in a nutshell

By the way Bubusia, so far I've tried a couple of HDMIs from Real Cable and Audioquest's upper/midranges and it is worth investigating as they had their audible signatures – as with other types of cables.

HDMI from computer to Marantz 8500 pre-pro works fine for all modes except Hibernate, which does not. Probably because jplay shuts down the video signal from computer. Any  fix for this?

Still have the same problem with hibernate mode. Won't run through hdmi output to my marantz 8500 pre-pro. Any way of keeping the video information flowing in hibernate through hdmi to get the prepro to recognize the signal?

Hibernate mode shuts off video by design.
