Hello everyone

 

I am happy to announce the start of the closed beta phase of AO 4.00. "Closed" means upon application, later on this will change to the public beta phase which means every current AO 3.00 user will see the option to download AO 4.00 Beta in the download portal.

 

If you are interested participating in the closed phase Beta please be aware of the following points:

• We are still in very early beta, far from perfect..
• You need to have a valid AO 3.00 license
• You must be a very experienced long-time AO user
• You need to format Windows and start from scratch with a fresh and clean installation with the OS of your choice
• It might be needed to re-format and re-install that machine, even several times (this might be due to failure/issues or even just by my request to do so, I am sorry..)
• This machine is not the playground for your own or other foreign mods, tools or tweaks
• The focus is testing AO 4.00 on a clean and not already optimized system (for obvious reasons)

 

We are currently on AO 4.00 Beta 2, the portation for the new OS'es is still ongoing. New is support for Windows Server 2022 and also for Windows 11. Pretty happy so far with the Windows Server 2022 part, Kernel-Streaming and WASAPI working in Core mode! The Windows 11 part is not very far yet, be aware of that.

I run HQPlayer 5.3 and tried 2022 core and Desktop and HQP did not start.

 

The client started up on Desktop but not on Core

I find that the optimisation of AO is no longer needed at all if you use the Tiny Windows versions.....

We are still in the adoption phase of the OS'es. Making third party software like new versions of HQP working in core is on the list, but has not yet been in focus. We'll come to that part a bit later on

I was on WS2019 on both PCs. And I took the chance from Phil to test AO4Beta. So I had to install WS2022 on both. I did datacenter core as I always had them in core mode. The process of configuring the OS is same as WS2019 with just a few minor changes. AO4 configuration is same as AO3. WS2022 comes without device manager and it is necessary to install it from FOD. I still haven't done it yet but will in near future. I used TC3.1 and ES99 and ES61 for audio pc and ES99 for control pc. Since my processors are 6th generation Skylake Intel I would not bother with ES100 and above. As for the sound - WOW, it's amazing, much more noticeable details and channel separation, much more improved in the low frequencies. The other thing I've noticed sound was so warm like coming from a turntable. The only thing I don't like in AO4 are the windows (command prompt,PowerShell, etc) - can't be controlled (size remains the same, can't slide up or down). It could be great if I could be able to completely uninstall the program and the system reverts back as it was before. That sometimes is necessary.

Like taxman2 I took the chance to test AO4Beta.

In fact, after discussing with Phil about the possibilities to tweak and optimize Windows Server 2022 DesktopExperience (with GUI) and Windows Server 2022 Core, he has invited me to test the firsts AO4 beta. 

For my part I have made tweaks and optimizations on both versions of WS2022 for about 2 years. The result I've obtained is very good concerning sound quality. And step by step I've realized that reducing to a minimum the number of process is not necessarily mandatory to get the best sound quality possible. Searching what to disable and what to keep takes many time and a very good knowledge of Windows OS.

In another hand Windows 11 lite versions are excellent to get very good sound quality too.

 

Now as I wrote before I got the opportunity to test the firsts Audiophile Optimizer 4.0 beta. I can tell you that Phil has yet made a good job and Windows Server 2022 with GUI or Windows Server 2022 Core are sounding better than everything I've tried these past two years as described above. 

AO4 beta 3, I'm trying actually, is working without problem with Windows Server 2022 Desktop Experience, yet. At this time there is a few problems on which Phill is working for the Core version of Windows Server 2022. WS 2022 is a little bit more difficult to tweak to get it working easily for everybody.

Yes, in Core instead of usual 20 services running on WS2019 after optimisation , now there are around 30. But that could easily be sorted out. The main thing is that SQ has never been better!

After optimisation and restart pops up a warning for a hard error. That was not the case before installing FOD. Maybe I should install the Windows update for Intel graphic driver. After installing FOD the interface has changed with multicoloured windows, tabs and bars.

With AO 4.00 beta 5 we should see an FoD installiert feature withing service tool. This will make it easier to have FoD installed for all those having an internet connection on their audio PC available. Once that FoD installer is working properly we'll take it from there

AO 4.00 Beta 5 is not available yet, You'll be automatically notified whenever you start AO, ServiceTool or setup.exe from your current AO installation.

Just moved my Control PC from Server core 2019 to Server core 2022 and blown away by the improvement is sound, bigger presentation, more bloom, hearing into the music more with increased separation around instruments and all playing together in a more musical rhythm. Increased weight, vocals are stronger and more natural, Great decay, really enjoyable listening. Thinking back something was very wrong with 2019,

I might be getting an old fish lately with this mentality, but I still prefer having a good quality product than rather be the fastet one. Good things sometimes just need some time... We'll see the next AO 4.00 beta soon, and I'll keep the beta phase goind as long as I think it takes to have it all right and matching the quality levels I want to keep up and on a very high level as always for AO
