Its been a tough week.

  • omicron is surging through NZ, 20K+ per day last few days, so hunkering down even though triple jabbed. (66years old and asthmatic) so avoiding restaurants, supermarket's and public transport. Opportunity therefore to backup music collection, review some meta tags, clean all the interconnects etc
  • my youngest brother who is in the UK is married to a lovely Ukrainian woman whose parents are still in the Ukraine unable to evacuate due to their age. Listening to her cries of frustration really hit home even though we are 20K kms apart.

So it was Saturday evening, just finished dinner, and my wife said why don't I relax with a glass of wine and listen to some music....Great idea I say

  • Pour myself a nice glass of Johnner Estate from the Waiarapa
  • Powering everything on AMP, PreAMP, DAC, DDC, external power supplies and Control and Audio PCs
  • Get comfy in my favourite listening chair
  • Use my phone with BubblePNP and select Agnes Obel and her album 'Myopia'
  • Sink into the chair as the first track envelopes me aided by a couple of sips of this gorgeous Pinot Noir
  • Then track one finishes and then nothing....no track two.
  • Muttering under my breath, put the wine down, ease myself out of the chair and head over to the Control/Audio PC.
  • Swear profusely, as I discover on my Audio PC in red text "Jplay licence has expired......" &^#&#$ Murphy's law, why now, why tonight!!!!!
  • Knowing what I have to do in putting the Audio PC onto the internet to reactivate (no small matter, have to reset Audiophile 3, add external USB/Ethernet hub, find ethernet cable etc.... I swear profusely again, drink the rest of my wine, switch everything off saying 'I'll get to you in the morning',
  • Switch off the lights, head to bed and load up an audiobook to try and de-stress again......

Frizzup :-)

Coincidentally, just had that happen to me too. The plus side, if there is one, is that you appear to have quickly identified the problem. And you had a few sips to soften the blow.

On more than one occasion that 6-month interval plus a less than razer sharp memory has resulted in my checking every @#$%^& thing trying to determine why there's no sound before remembering that about 6 months had gone by. And then having to restore the network/internet services, etc.

Wonder if I'll remember 6 months from now?

Hello. Do licenses really have to be renewed somehow every 6 months?

Hi PavelID,

For the time being, yes.

From the manual: "Online copy protection system will check if license is valid periodically. Offline PCs must be connected to internet at least every 6 months otherwise JPLAY will stop functioning."

There has been discussion in the past about employing another copy protection method, such as those used for Fidleizer Pro or the Audiophile Optimizer. Hopefully a sufficiently secure copy protection method will be developed that avoids a biannual shutdown of JPLAY by anyone who has disabled network services as part of their optimization protocols.

Cheers,

Bernie
