FYI - the latency of Optane 800P looked quite interesting

https://www.anandtec...d-800p-review/4

Latency of 900P looked even better

https://www.storager...p-series-review

Pretty much the same deal again with P4800X

https://www.anandtec...andson-review/5

https://www.anandtec...andson-review/6

Most likely P1600X should be a fairly safe bet then?

It would definitely be nice as a small time slum-SLOG. According to Intel Arc these even have slightly better latency values than the 4801X did. The on paper write IOPS are also almost 200K higher. With all the other “consumer” (read below $1K / unit) optane options being killed off, I bet this will be $400. lol. Your move Intel.

The ones available on eBay are used while the rest should be brand new, thankfully both 58GB and 118GB models should be no longer unobtainium at the moment

About 100 bucks or so for 58GB, plenty of room for booting PE while adding quite a bit of software.

Though Optane might not be all that sustainable for Intel's pocket?

https://www.pcgamer....nglorified-end/

Intel’s Optane business suffered over half a billion dollars’ worth of losses over the course of 2020 according to figures drawn from Intel’s official 10K SEC filing. The figures come via Blocks and Losses (with thanks to Tom’s Hardware). Blocks and Losses goes on to speculate that the losses continue into 2021. If the predicted $529 million operating loss in 2021 is accurate, then the already shrinking Optane business is down well over a billion dollars over the last two years.

I also used HQplayer Desltop 3 and 4, and JRiver Media Center up to version 26 for a long time. On Windows Server Core they were much better than F2K, but not Bughead; The funny thing is that in Win10-11 XPE Audio it is not like that, I don't know why, F2K is superior to HQPlayer and JRMC, but not to BugHead.

FYI - the author of SounDevil was finally done with the development of 64-bit version and I uploaded a copy here

Many thanks to samotc and internethandle for your invaluable guide and ongoing improvement inputs! Very appreciated from my end, and I am sure many others will share similar appreciation.

I have been sitting on the fence for a while since this began. Only last week, I decided to experiment with some success. I said some success because I have not yet optimised this OS like you two Gents. Regardless, I have it to work, replacing my existing WS2019 DC in core mode with AO and Fedelizer in Ramdisk operation. Simply out of the box, with approx 35 processors in operating and a total iso space of 565MB, it sounds superior to my previous OS! OMG…., I can’t imagine what it will be like once optimised to 20 or fewer processors. It has made AO or fedelizer investments much more redundant. The reality is that I am happy with what I heard in situ from my setup. Similar to samotc, I rediscover my digital library again! Fascinating!

Many thanks Gents, for your tireless efforts.
Chanh.

Hi Chanh! Do you use it in single PC setup? Is it possible to use it in dual pc setup with JPLAY?

My setup is a dual pc setup. However, I no longer use JPlay since I migrated from Jplay to Roon core ethernet to HQPlayer via Network Femto on both PCs. This dual setup works flawlessly in my case.

I managed to progress further with Win11xPE. Currently has only seven services running in the background.
The painstaking and very time-consuming to disable each line item in the registry to ensure it boots successfully at every turn.

Extremely satisfied with the SQ outcome.
Many thanks again to the Op, seeteeyou and all!
Cheers.

Happy to hear others are getting around to getting a deployment/ISO running and enjoying the SQ benefit. It definitely takes some work, but the payoff is worth it, IMO.

Since I last posted, not much has changed for me, although I have loaded the ISO into Ramdisk both with the JCAT FEMTO USB card, and shortly thereafter via my new JCAT USB XE card, using the M.2 to USB-C/USB 3.0 adapter with an Intel Optane M.2 inside via Grub4DOS. Compared with using the same adapter/drive on a motherboard USB-C port, the difference is subtle, but there -- things are "tighter," with a more focused sonic image and a bit more clarity. I would call the difference between using the adapter/Optane drive + Grub4DOS vs. using a regular USB 3.0 thumb drive to load into Ramdisk to be much larger, though.

So, to summarize in terms of SQ benefit for loading methods into Ramdisk from my experience from those I've tried:

Intel Optane M.2 to USB-C adapter + Grub4DOS via JCAT USB XE card >

Intel Optane M.2 to USB-C adapter + Grub4DOS via motherboard USB-C port >

Intel Optane M.2 to USB-C adapter without Grub4DOS via motherboard USB-C port >>>>>> (large difference)

USB 3.0/3.1 thumbdrive via motherboard port without Grub4DOS

Oh also, because on the JCAT cards I have the jumpers removed so that there is no 5V available on the ports to power the M.2 to USB-C adapter, I was waiting on getting a good quality LPS to inject 5V via a iFi iDefender, but I got impatient and have just been using a cheap eBay lab LPS, which is not the best, really. There are possibly more benefits to be had there if I got a LT3045 board or similar to inject the 5V into the adapter instead. I unplug the drive/iDefender after loading the ISO into RAM.

I agree, btw, that LemondateElitest and MajiorityClean, strangely, seem to have an either neutral or sometimes negative SQ effect on Win11PE, which is different than any other Windows I've tried. Rewrite Data is still good though, I agree.

Did you get a chance to try ExerciseStabilizer with TrustedClean 1.44 recently? Just wondering if that were making any positive / neutral / negative differences.

Creating RAM disk(s) with ImDisk seemed to be a good move according to another forum thread, though we're always running everything off RAM already.

However, we couldn't really copy all of our lossless music files to RAM or even Optane drives. We might do better with something similar to foo_ramdisk with foobar2000 1.X (2.X ain't quite ready yet) but then we'll need to keep that SysWOW64 folder only for the sake of running one application

You can start preparing 64bit versions of your components already.

Intel CAS turned out to be free for personal use, though the one and only requirement should be having at least a single drive from Intel

https://registration....2.64_entry.exe

https://www.intel.co...erformance.html

Even AMD Ryzen 2700X seemed to work just fine, therefore just about any Intel CPUs and chipsets should be OK then?

https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/70311232

No issues with 16GB Optane M10 at all, same deal with 280GB Optane 900P (2% of caching capacity = 5.6GB of RAM) as well

https://www.intel.co...-solutions.html

Intel® CAS will use a small portion of system memory (2% of caching capacity) in order to store metadata. That means that the amount of memory has to be proportional to the size of the cache space.

For example, if you are trying to set up the cache with a partition of 800GB, you have to reserve an amount of memory equal to the 2% of the partition size. In this example, 16GB of system memory is required to start cache.

RAID-0 with dual or even quad Optane M10 would be mighty interesting if we're paying for PrimoCache instead, of course we'll need either Xeon processor(s) or X299 platform

FYI, I’m using the Asus Hyper M.2 X16 V2 with four Intel 665 M.2 drives in RAID 0 with Intel’s VROC on processor #2’s PCIe X16 slot of my WS 621E Sage MB, (copying Taiko’s Extreme usage of this setup😉). It is by far the best local storage setup I’ve heard and better than NAS and as good as RAM drive.

Intel Quad RAID-0 Optane Memory 32GB Bootable Without VROC Key!

Double Intel Optane 32GB drives as Level-2 Cache Storage with PrimoCache possible?

Probably not common, however, from my experience regarding RAMDisk vs Boots from USB direct. I have found running directly from USB has given me more services being disabled. With my mobo super micro X11SCL-F-0 (recommended by Marcin), I can manually disable the on-board VGA, and with USB boots direct, it boots ok. In Ramdisk, I could not. Having VGA disabled and many more services can be disabled from Intenethandle’s stop services cmnd idea, Win11XPE has only seven services running. This combo to my setup and cloth ears sounds the best. Since having it running the last few days, I have also discarded the MInority Clean too. I found with it, actually worse off the SQ. Interestingly, I was a diehard MC fan!
Simply sharing a personal observation, your findings may differ in mileage.

Hi Chanh,

Which seven services have you been left with?

Hi internethandle,

I tried uploading a photo, but it seems my account has a restriction, even with low res.
These are left running, and the rest is at “stop.”
1. AudioendpointB
2. Audiosrv
3. Dcomlaunch
4.LSM
5.RpcEptMapper
6.RpcSc
7.SamSc

Both 1&2 can also be disabled. However, my Accuphase DC-1000 stop working. It seems I need them despite using AISO from Accuphase to do DSD256.

Thanks for your contribution to this. I am not that IT savvy and would not have achieved otherwise.

Hello everyone, I finally finished the guide, I hope it will be useful for everyone who wants to build a Windows PE Audiophile, both 11 and 10, it is valid for both.
I have tried to make it easy to read and I intend that anyone with a little computer knowledge and who is not an expert, can build their own audiophile Windows PE.
Why windows PE as audio OS?
First of all, it takes up very little space, just over 1GB.
Second, it runs on RAM and only needs 2GB to run
Third, it runs with very few active processes and services, so most of the optimizations that are described in this, and other forums, already have them done, so the pending tasks are much less.
And a quarter; It sounds great, it has a great sound, even without tuning.
I encourage everyone to build one, 10, 11 or both, tune it up, and compare with what you have, and finally stick with the one you like best.
At the end of the day, what it is about is trying, experimenting and advancing in the achievement of our goals, neither more nor less than learning and enjoying music, and also learning.
I believe that all doubts and questions regarding the guide should be channeled through this thread, not through private messages, so we all learn.
A hug to all.

Where can we download the iso? Thanks,

Hi, tuochongle; I do not think it is appropriate for this forum, nor that it is legal, to share Windows-based ISOs, Microsoft would not like that, what I can tell you is that you make the ISO yourself, because in this thread it is very well described how to do it, it takes a lot of work, but if you have a little computer knowledge, through the guide attached in the first post of this thread you will be able to achieve your goal. In case you need help, many of us who write here will be happy to lend it to you.

I don't wanna make any assumptions here, maybe it's somewhat easier to understand what to do if instructions were provided in another language? AFAIK almost all of the resources listed below might be created by someone who seemed to share the same native language as yours

To get rid of DWM:

1.In the Windows\System32 folder, locate and rename dwm.exe to dwm.exe.org

2. In the same folder, locate and copy rundll32.exe to dwm.exe

3. In the same folder rename dwminit.dll to dwminit.dll.org

No more DWM and everything works fine for me. YMMV!
