The reason they are larger in size and will not fit in side a computer is they are a linear power supply and the transformer is large,

And it will definitely sound better than any switching power supply, my take on this is that I don’t mind more boxes to get a better sound.

Kind regards Rob.

Correct  -  as Rob wrote above - we're not aiming to have a power supply that fits in the enclosure. This product is about unprecedented ALL-linear  ATX PSU.

OPTIMO ATX – world’s first truly linear ATX PSU for audiophiles – heat management.

One of the biggest challenges in linear power supply design is heat management, as heat generation is inherent for its nature, especially for high-current PSUs such as OPTIMO ATX.

Hello, you are right, I’ve measured a few and running audio is about 3A, and video about 5A but the instantaneous current can be as high as 12A or more with a very sharp rise and fall time which means you need good headroom and plenty of smoothing capacitors to keep the ripple current breakthrough low.

Kind Regards Rob.

I think a commercial product to be released into general public/market, it requires thorough tests to ensure that it can accommodate every circumstance/need. Some i7 or Xeon server/setup demand high current at initial powering up. it can spike up to 20A at peak. If power supply rating is insufficient, it may corrupted the CMOS/BIOS or even bricked your mainboard.

Hi Nothing will accommodate every circumstance or need, if you start looking at gaming rigs pulling hundreds of Amps on the 12v rail this will not be suitable, this is designed to power an audio PC which in my opinion it will do very well, as for damaging motherboards I doubt it as there is plenty of power for an audio PC.
Kind Regards Rob.

Actually it is the first truly linear ATX PSU that is ATX compliant. You will see a control board in the next teaser.

Well I hope you are right, Rob!
I have been building psu for audio server since 2010 and from my experience 3A is no short from amusing... unless you are using atom type mobo with CPU of 35W TDP or less.

Regardless, best we get some inputs from Marcin or from his Engineering designer.

Hi Chanh, the ones I have measured have been i3 or i5 up to sort of 65 W TDP and 3A is the sort of average running current I have measured, don’t forget the CPU will only running at 1 or 2 % unless you use processing, I’ve noticed quite a few designs using low power shunt mode regulators to power the motherboard.

Kind Regards Rob.

Marcin, look at my profile picture, perhaps first truly linear?:)
Regulators 12v, 5v, 5v and 3.3v. Although it is not mass production product. I really happy that JCAT is doing great products for others. Good luck

Hello Kuni,

It takes a lot more to build a real ATX power supply that complies with all regulations. You will see with the next teaser :)

Marcin

With the OPTIMO ATX one can use the CPU up to 95W TDP.

Hi Marcin,

Great news and Congrats.

That is one MONSTER PSU with three independently regulated circuitry.

Will there be an introductory promotion to the JCat diehard? I am a diehard, btw!

Pls keep us posted....

There will be a pre-order with all details. And yes, there will be an introductory promotion, but please do not expect it will be cheap. It is a very advanced product. It took 2 years of intensive (and costly R&D) and the pure cost of production is not low either at this level of quality. This is a beast and it will outperform any high-current audiophile power supply on the market - not to mention that there are no true ATX linear power supplies on the market. This is a truly unique product that has no competition.

Best regards,

Marcin
