Looking at 2.5” cases, they largely seem to get their power from the destination end. To mitigate that would mean getting power separately inline, such as the iFi hub. The downside, cost aside, is the need for another USB cable of at least the not so cheap TotalDac’s quality. Otherwise, it undermines the gain that a separate power source provides. And even the iFi would need an LPS, since their wall warts are sonically garbage. I can see why your set up is so involved. What I’m looking at is where the biggest sonic gains for the buck are especially given that my Oppo has a beefed up power supply, uses digital only and igets AC from a regenerator. The bigger gains seem to me to be had more from 1) between Oppo and Lampi dac, where I’m using an iFi spdif i-purifier, powered by a Paul Hynes SR4 LPS and a Zen Audio 5v power cord; 2) the sonic quality of tubes in the dac and preamp; and 3) physical isolation of the components and speakers.

Follow up: I asked Uptone about using the Regen inline from the SSD to the Oppo. Alex said it would work, but he wasn't sure it would offer much benefit because their products are designed to help a USB dac. Worth a try, as soon as an adapter arrives.

I am not sure I understood correctly, but maybe someone mentioned on another forum that for the 3.5 inch drives external cases, the motor uses the 12v and the electronics power was from the USB line. Maybe someone here can correct or clarify.

3,5 " usually use both 5V & 12V power

What do you thing of

Samsung T7 MU-PC2T0T SSD Esternal 2 TB

Is it a good USB memory for external library? I will use a "Y" cable for separate 5V (LPS)

NAND Flash Memory Type

MLC

Thanks

Currently I've got previous model Samsung SSD T5 500Gb, it's TLC memory. So I think T7 MLC should be better. Isn't it?

I've found this article:

In general, the reliability of an SSD decreases the more voltage levels it has because every voltage level adds more room for error. Since TLCs have eight different voltage levels and MLC SSDs have four, TLCs are usually less reliable than MLC SSDs. More voltage levels make the read process more sensitive to noise.

My library 4tb of flac files is on 2x 2tb usb3.0 flash thumb drives and it sounds perfect. As for DSD files it's on 2tb Samsung SSD internal drive.
