Hi.  Are there any past or present laptops which perform at a similar level to the target reference designs some of us have for Jplay Femto SinglePC playback?

ie:  linear power supplies, optimized workstation class motherboards, either SOC celeron or Xeon CPUs, optane for boot drive, etc..  Basically, does an all-in-one unit exist that performs comparably as a Jplay SinglePC?

Would like to know if it's possible to have a semi-portable audiophile grade playback system.

thx

I think there is none and I'm checking new computer hardware releases regurarlly.

A mini PC would be closer to a good Audio PC build.

There will be no v7 of the Xeon e3 as far as I know. e3 series is  replaced by e5

hi,

what about this one ?

https://ark.intel.co...he-2-50ghz.html

It's an embedded CPU (comes integrated with a motherboard). I've tried Xeon D in the past. It's a good CPU, but I prefer higher-performance Xeons with more cache.

Marcin

So that E5 processor uses the Same  P10 S  ANUS mother board , correct?

It looks like the Xeon E Model E-2136 does not have internal graphics , is that correct? Are there any in this series that do?

How important is  ECC Memory for Sound quality?

Opinions differ. Some say ECC memory should theoretically sound worse.

Some say it actually sounds better.

Some (including me) are not sure, even after comparing.

I think xeon E-2176M embedded itx motherboard whould be optimal based on its low tdp and high cpu benchmark score.

Thinking about building a control-pc based on that board. Any opinions?

@marcin_gps  Can you share suggestions for any particular "mini PCs" that might make a decent (obviously not reference) AudioPC?

Fidelizer's Keetakawee stated that in some post I remember. I do not know the theory behind it.

I'd get a NUC and use a linear PSU with it. One can even use JCAT USB & NET Cards in it via m.2 -> PCIe riser cables, so the upgrade path is nice.
