Hello

Still in the process of selecting the parts and software for my third audio file server.

With regards to the MS licences, in your experience is it best to buy the basic WS 2016  or WS 2019 'Essentials' server licence. This version would work for me as its cheaper, has less features and does not need a separate CAL licence like the Standard version does. However 'Essentials' it does not have remote desktop feature but guessing I don't need that if I use Jplay two PC set up?

Useful guide to compare features:

Seems MS have added a lot of clever and useful new features to 2019 version which I doubt I need for audio, however is this the one feature that is of interest to us PC audiophiles, perhaps? Getting a little beyond my tech knowledge now :)

"Persistent memory support for persistent memory (PM) technology provides byte-level access to non-volatile media while also reducing the latency of storing or retrieving data significantly."

Steve were you able to determine if the 2019 Essentials version can be installed in CORE mode?  When I install the Evaluation version it did not give that option.

thanks

James

The subject came up in the AO beta thread some days ago:

''With 2016/2019 you install essentials you will be stuck in GUI forever since it is no longer possible to switch between modes AND you cannot install Core directly at all.''
