OK so Installed and activated Femto, I can see the setting window. I installed Kinsky on my iPAD and I can not see my library of music (HDD attached to my laptop) Is there anything I am missing? I don't know how to "load" my library. Any direction would be appreciated.

Just reinstall JPLay Femto and this time upon asking "choose drive or folder for library give the right path.

OK so I reinstalled and I made sure the path name was accurate E:\Music\HDD1 Music

However when I go into folder C:\Programs\JPlay\Music Library it is only 1kb, looks like it is not loading the library? Also the UPnP does not see the external HDD.

OK Baby steps I tried, in the following order:

E:\Music\HDD1 Music

E:\Music

E:Music\HDD1 Music\

E:\

E:

Finally with E: I see Femto Server on the ipad. There is an icon for the music library but it is empty.

Can't make this stuff up. It shouldn't be this hard.  Either I royally screwed this up or....

Before an OS clean reinstall as a last resort, check out the JPLAY Manual. Towards the end of the manual, there's instruction on how to fix the path name without reinstalling. In addition, I'd get rid of blank space in the folder name "HDD1 Music" and replace with a hyphen "-" or underscore "_".

I think a clean installation is the first thing following the thorough manual check.
Lots of meaningless effort can be avoided.

You mean reinstall Windows OS?!!!

OK so I am very close. I see the Jplay Femto on the Kinsky and I see the music library. I select WASAPI Auralic but I dont hear any sound. I know I am close becuase when I select a file I han hear the HDD and laptop "churn" in response to my selection. No sound. Any advice is appreciated as I think I am very close to figuring this out

Success!!!  Now I just have to select optimum settings (classic, etc)

I note the the free UPnP apps are limited in features, any recommendations on really good ones that are compatible? Thanks to all for your advise!!

So after giving it a listen iit sounds tipped up on top, a little brittle for my taste. I guess this has to do with settings, I don't remember the older JPlay sounding like that.

Do you have a dedicated PC you're running JplayFemto on? If not there're too many processes in the background that give you this brittle. Most here run a dedicated PC with extra Software like AO2.2, Fidelizer 8.3 and other.
The only 'drawback' of JplayFemto I see is that it opens up your music with lot of transparency but at the same time is very sensetive to noise and jitter from your system that you weren't able to hear with e.g. Jplay 6.2.
For example you will hear a profound improvement in SQ if you close your browser with several tabs open on a not dedicated PC. So if you tell us more about your system you'd get more help on SQ I think.

Yes it is very detailed and transparent. I know a laptop is not ideal so long term I will buy a NUC or something like that. My current laptop is dedicated but i do need to go in and take stuff out of the start menu and uninstall stuff I dont need. But it does not have a lot on it as I never used it for anything else. I agree that is my next step.

A very detailed and transparent with a little brittle: I'd try a different digital filter and sound signature from AO, starting from X/X. If still not satisfied, get a JCAT Isolator or an iFi Audio device (iPurifier, iUSB, iGalvanic).

AO? X/X? digital filer?

Never mind if you're not running AO (Audiophile Optimizer) software which lets you tune the SQ based on system digital filters [not filer, my bad] and sound signatures. Look into the hardware recommendations.

I have Ultra-Fi USB cables with noise filters on them it is a dual headed USB. Was expensive and is very good. I thought that the DAC do their own reclocking? I will certainly consider getting the hardware suggestions from a retailer that has a 30 day return policy. If it works i keep it. Im told I need to ditch the laptop .

Replacing the laptop with a fanless PC will be a good move, but those hardware recommendations still in need between PC and DAC imho. Unless you get a VERY good usb card and VERY good expensive DAC.
