Of course there is a difference and not a small one on control PC...

I've tried all combinations and could not hear a difference between WS 2016 and Ws2012 on control pc. And definitely I am not deaf.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Sounds like I should go for 2019 on both.

Marcin, is there a real gain to be had from "core" on the controlpc with 2019?

Currently my controlpc is 2016 desktop so I can run Jriver for library management purposes. But I could use something else if core is better.

I'd leave Control PC in GUI

I run in dual PC configuration, the Control PC with Windows Server 2019 Desktop experience, the Audio PC with Windows Server 2019 (= Server core in the previous terminology).  What I find as the benefit of this configuration is rather from Windows 1809, and not from Windows Server.  This means you may be able to get the same sound quality even if you use Windows10 1809,

I also prefer W10 to Server 2016 GUI overall. Although server wins in some areas of sound quality (has a blacker background and sense of ease), it also has a bit too much warmth/bloom around the midrange frequencies that I find distracting. W10 seems a bit leaner/sharper, at least through my rather warm-sounding active monitors.

Would you have any recommendations for which W10 services to disable?  Have you tried the AO Windows 10 optimisations in service tool and would you advise doing that?

I have been running JPLAYfemto on WS2019 Core mode for both AudioPC and ControlPC for a while. They have got really stabilised especially since 7d.

It is more tricky with AudioPC on Core to make KS work well while ControlPC is more straight forward - before 7c I had more struggled with ControlPC, though.

I don’t see the point why you don’t try WS2019 Core on ControlPC as well if you can do on AudioPC.
My ControlPC is set up in dual-boot with WS2019 Core and GUI. I use GUI for managing the music library and Core for listening.

I am still waiting for Audiophil to release a compatible version in January. I've noticed that there are too many processes running in WS 2019. I think it will be worth waiting.

I've got 14 processes plus JPlay, Fidelizer and Process Lasso on my audio pc WS2016 core. I don't use the killer scripts.

What I was trying to say is that WS2019 is more complicated than WS2016 and runs more processes than usual. I will leave it to the professionals such as Audiophil. Once AO is updated, I will go for it.

Of course there is. Run AO3 Beta and say yes to install media player support.
