Thanks Nik and Marcin,

I tried and tried to install those drivers without win 7 compatibility mode to no avail. Berkeley stated compatibility mode was necessary and they seem to be right. I tried tricking with the old "have disk" option but still couldn't get it done without compatibility mode.

Asio was a non-starter and Wasapi also was second to - surprise(!) Kernel streaming for SQ which Berkeley said should not be used under any circumstances! I trust my ears.

I'm like most audiophiles, sound is king but some level of practicality has to set in. I also am using miniPlayer and hibernate mode as a benchmark but managing 7 TB of music is not a trivial thing. In order to fully enjoy such a large library some proper indexing and access is a must.

I will be purchasing JPlay but I'm currently pairing it with Audirvana on a trial. I wish I had jumped at Christmas when JPlay was discounted to 99 Euros!!!

Roon was also tried but not a good pairing. I realize Audirvana is very buggy at the moment.

Thanks again for the support, Dale

Hello.

After installing a new network card, the license stopped working, I have already written several letters to support@jplay.eu but no one answers there.
How can I activate Jplay Femto again?

Hi baramzisyan,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you're describing two different problems.

1. JPLAY is not working with a Denafrips driver. I see that you had a similar problem previously with updates to a Denafrips driver and/or firmware ("Denafrips USB Driver" thread in Computer Audio sub-forum, posts #6-8,#10, #12). From what I read there, the problem lies with updates to the Denafrips drivers/firmware not with JPLAY. Is it possible to roll back to an earlier version of the driver that presumably worked with JPLAY?

2. It appears that you're having a license activation problem due to installing a new network card (is that right?). JPLAY licensing is tied to computer hardware so that if you make hardware changes you may get the license expired message. If that is the case, contact JPLAY support again fully explaining your situation and requesting a new activation key (you can get a new activation key that will be tied to your new hardware setup for situations like this).

I'm sorry that you've had no response from JPLAY support, hopefully you'll get a response this time.

Cheers,

Bernie

anyone using Kinsky (which is Linn Kazoo) on Mac OSX/iOS to connect to the Femto server ? I tried connecting but it keeping spinning on "Waiting for Rooms". The Jplay manual seem to recommend this app.

I tried mconnect from iOS and its able to see the femto server. I have a mapped network drive (Z:) which I had pointed to the library when installing jplay but from mconnect, though its able to see the drive, the content seems to be empty. Is it because the JPLAY FEMTO service runs under SYSTEM account and the mapped network drive is under Administrator account ? And I need to follow "Using JPLAY femtoServer with a NAS" steps from the manual ?

Yes, you have to map the drive as an admin. Otherwise it won't be visilble.

Ok, yes, I followed the guide to mount them as system account and that seem to work fine.

I am also trying to evaluate Bubble upnp control point vs Roon on a Android device (I am a mac/ios user and hence had to buy a android based tab). Bubble is able to see the rendered and the upnp server just fine and able to play music. However, the femto server library only show folder view. Is that normal ? I couldn't find any setting to change them, like a thumbnail view in other apps or Roon. Can bubble create a library out of the music files or is that a restriction on the Jplay femto ? I also noticed there is a paid version of Bubble, so I am also wondering if the library view is restricted to the free version ?

I am noticing another issue - on some tracks (44.1k flac files) I am getting an "Unknown error: (code: 801)". These files play fine with Roon and jplay femto using upnpbridge. Anyone has any idea what it means ?

Hi Dev,

JPLAYfemto server uses a folder view to 'see' your library. For example, within your library you could have one or more Genre folders, within each Genre folder a collection of Artist folders, and within each Artist folder a collection of Album folders each of which contain individual music files and cover art. If you include the thumbnail (typically labelled Folder.JPG) along with the music files within the album folder, Bubble UPnP should display the thumbnail at the artist, album and tracks levels. Note that only one thumbnail will be displayed at the artist level even though there may be several albums for that artist, each with its own thumbnail.

Cheers,

Bernie

Bernie, yes, thanks for the explanation. I did play with it some more to understand Bubble/Jplay interaction a bit better using trial and error.

By any chance do you know if Bubble upnp is able to display the folders in grid view instead of list view ? I am not able to find a way to do it and it always shows list view. It's rather awkward if you have a large collection of library as navigation is tricky. Other apps like Hifi cast and fidata shows the album as grid view by default when connected to the same jplay femto server. It saves space and you can scroll the pages much quicker. Its surprising that Bubble doesn't have the support or I may be doing something wrong.

Between, any particular configuration for optimal sound quality with the Bubble upnp app ? Any recommendation on the Android table to use with Bubble upnp ?

This error comes from Bubble UPnP, not from JPLAY.

so what does this error mean ? anyway to resolve or workaround this ?

 Hi Dev,

I agree that it would be very convenient if Bubble UPnP would display the folders in a grid view, but it doesn't appear to offer that option. At least I've not been able to find a way to do it within the settings or on the internet.

With respect to tweaks that may improve sound quality, you can try the following (if you have not already done so): disable Doze, disable Battery saving mode, disable local renderer (if you do not need it), disable local & cloud (if not used), set  FFmpeg audio coding to never used, and disable Volume step. I assume that you will have gapless control checked.

Cheers,

Bernie

+1

In addition, I'd do the followings to further optimize the SQ:

1/ Settings/Device Maintenance: optimize for 100 Excellent status. Put BubbleUPnP as only Unmonitored App. Clean up memory. This entire item #1 is where BubbleUPnP beats HifiCast, imho.

2/ Upon firing up BubbleUPnP, make sure none other than BubbleUPnP is active.

3/ Once inside BubbleUPnP, More/Settings/Renderers settings/Select renderer --> JPLAY FEMTO: Renderer polling interval (ms) = 10000.

Good luck and enjoy!
