I am wondering if DNLA servers sound different. Until recently I have been using Minimserver/Upplay to play music with my dual PC setup. Minimserver is fine but I have an awful lot of tags that show up errors. When I used JRiver as a DNLA server I do not get these errors. I also find that JRiver Media Center (I use an older version that permits use of JPLAY) offers a more convenient interface for browsing through my albums, for example, I get to see album covers as I browse.

All other things being equal, I would prefer to use JRiver but would not wish this to impact adversely on sound quality. It would seem that the general consensus of option gained through Google search is that there is little if any difference i the sound of DNLA servers.

Could someone please advise me on this one? Thanks

Thanks Marcin. I stopped being lazy yesterday and did a comparison for myself between JRiver and Minimserver. I think Minimserver offered better sound quality. The differences were subtle but clearly audible. I was using a DSD64 rip from the SHM-SACD of 'Tubular Bells' for the comparison and found that Minimserver unlocked the mix a little better. Detail that was not well emphasised with JRiver was more easily identifiable with Minimserver, for example, the ostinato single note part part overdubbed near to the beginning of the track.
