Hello, since I got the femto card and listen to hipernate, I don't know if I'm going core mode. That sounds so relaxed. Windows 2012, lukit spdif, 4.82, 32 sample, dac link 1000.

Hi, I just sent a mail to support but am posting here to see if anyone from the community has seen this before.

I just took possession of a FEMTO card bought from JCAT directly end of 2019. The card is in impeccable state physically and looks like new. I have plugged the card into my existing audio PC. The card replaced

an older 1.1 card I had there and I kept all settings as I had before. 5V Power is provided from an external (HDPlex) LPS.

After multiple tests, I cannot get to work one of the 2 USB ports (the one closer to the DC in). I have one USB DAC that is also powered by
the card and I have a Singxer SU-1 DDC (connected to my second DAC which has only SPDIF input). Both are not fed when using that port.
Both working perfectly when I connect them to the second port.

Any idea how I can troubleshoot this?

From what I’ve read here, there are 2 versions of firmware. The latest one will only allow the use of one USB port but for a better sound quality. You may download the original one to activate both ports.

Yes I read the same thing. It is likely the card has indeed only one port active.

I am thinking now if I should re-flash as my use case for using both ports is very limited.

Is it possible to connect Jcat USB card Femto installed in the suitable external case (Zotac Amp Box Mini or similar for the external GPUs) with Thunderbolt connection, to Intel NUC PC, which does not have proper PCIe.

Thanks!

Hello, I just bought JCAT femto usb card and I have HD plex h5 chasiss and HDPLEX 400W HiFi DC-ATX.

1.Is it possible to just put card in free PCI and use it without any other connection of power? Does card use then power from motherboard (from pciex)?

2. How to use HDPLEX 400W HiFi DC-ATX as external power supply unit?

Thx

Hello Konik,

We have not heard from any customer who tried this, so I can't guarantee it will work. Technically external PCIe extenders should work, but I  can't recommend a solution I have not  tried myself.

1. Yes, it's possible, but only with self-powered USB devices (most USB DACs require 5V via USB ports, so it will not work without connecting PSU  to the card). If PSU is not connected to the card, the card will be powered via PCIe slot.

2. If  there is a DC cable included for SATA drives, you  may use SATA-to-LP molex adapter to power the  card internally

Marcin

Many thanks to Lachlan Fennen of Passion for Sound for the excellent and very comprehensive review of our USB FEMTO and NET FEMTO cards

"Both the USB and network cards were great upgrades to my existing setup."

After reading this thread, i have somewhat understand on how the jumper work.  please correct me if i am wrong.

1) the jumper j4 and j5 is primarily for providing 5volt thru usb for each of the usb port.

2) if your dac does not require 5volt, then it's best to remove jumber j4 and j5 and still connecting the external linear power supply to the jcat.

I have done step two and i hear the different.

Now my question is, say the usb port that goes to the dac, i remove that jumper.  At the same time, i put the jumper on the other available port and boot up euphony on the available port using the high speed usb (32GB).  This method assume that my thought about the j4 and j5 providing power to the perspective port. would it work?

I am not sure you can boot OS from the USB port on the card, but you may try.

i already try it and it work.  My question for you is, the two jumper, if you have them jumped, does that mean 5volt is applied to usb port they represent?

currently here is my setup, the port next to the power input have the jumper connected and a usb stick that i use to boot.  The second port where it goes to my dac, i have remove the jumper and it work.

My motherboard is MSI and i went to bios and select the usb as primary boot up.  i also make sure it boot up to the usb stick by pressing f11 during the bios up.  f11 is to select bootable device.  So far i have to say i am very happy.  BTW, i have the jcat usb xe.

Yes

And when removed there is no 5V via USB port - this is recommended when DAC does not require 5V from a USB port. It simply sounds better this way

Hi All,

My first post here and I need help. I have the Femto USB on the way to me and need help regarding power requirements. I also have an iFi ipower X to power it. This card is going into a gaming computer, but I do listen to some music on it while using it. My goal is to improve sound quality for music and games. After reading this whole thread I still don't know if I should/can remove the four jumpers. In one post Marcin said to leave the jumpers in set to filter mode, but he has also said in another post to remove all four for best sound quality. Since I don't have the card yet based on pictures there are only four jumpers on the board, is that correct? Thank you.

Hello and welcome!

There are 2 scenarios:

1) your DAC requires power via USB port - then you have to keep jumpers in place.

2) your DAC doesn't require power via USB port - remove jumpers.

Regards,

Marcin

Received my card today, but no luck with it so far. I removed all the jumpers and simply plugged in the ipower supply. The plug on the supply seems to fit tight on the card. Do I have to use one of the adapters and which colour adapter?

Upon firing up the computer Windows never tried installing drivers, does that mean its nor seeing the card? I tried two different slots with the same result. I did install the Renesas driver and it shows up in device manager and says it is working properly.

Is there any way to see that the card shows up in Windows?

I'm using an iFi NEO iDSD unit. Does this unit run without 5 volts to the port?

Thanks.

Possibly the DAC needs 5V dc. I’d try ifi iDefender or a dual lead USB cable to provide the voltage and find out.
