I'm pleased to announce another great product: JCAT USB Card FEMTO which replaces the original JCAT USB Card model.

It's available now and ready to ship. More info here: http://jplay.eu/ml_p...usb-card-femto/

Regards,

Marcin

Nice!

Question n°1 - If it can be completely powered by external power supply how do the jumpers work? Is possible to use the card "externally powered but without 5v to dac"?

Question n°2 - How does the discount work? Buyers of the previous card are elegible for september discount if they didn't buy jplay too?

1. You can remove jumpers j5 & j7

2. Correct. There is a special password protected page. It's explained in the newsletter. If you haven't received it, send me a PM :)

Marcin

Hi Marcin,

Good news!

Only one question: what do you think, is it compatible with my ADL Stratos USB DAC?

(Femto: NEC chip, Stratos: XMOS) I don't know, just afraid that I buy it, and my DAC willn't work from these USB ports.

Thanks,

Gabor, Hungary

Hi Gabor,

There are no known compatibility issues. The new JCAT USB Card FEMTO uses the same chipset as the last revision which was proven to work with hundreds systems. I'm sure it will work with your DAC. If it doesn't work or you're not satisfied you may return it for a full refund

Regards,

Marcin

That's interesting Marcin

Sligoland has posted about how the Lampizator Big is USB is better if you use the JL Sounds I2SoverUSB board with the Clock Board rather then the stock board. And it's clock board uses the 957 clocks you are using

I was wondering how improving the clocking at the computer end works out if the async dac takes over control of signal timing from there?

My DAC's digital input board is also based on this Crystek clock. It seems the clocking is important at both sides.

This is my subjective feeling: When I received a prototype of the new card I expected it will sound better, but I didn't expect the improvement to be that significant. It's like I've been listening to broken records before. The gains were huge in all areas: resolution, clarity and musicality. The sound was uncolored, very natural and very effortless. It was coming out of black. Even the most complex orchestral music was played without any effort. Huge amount of inner details combined with silky smoothness.

Marcin one more question from me. Does it works on the same drivers ? I wonder if We will need to use new activation code from AO.

Same drivers. It is plug and play if you want to upgrade from older revision to the new one.

Are there other changes to the original version besides the Femto clock ? Better clock on Usb card probably will improve sound despite having other reclocking devices, like Regen and intona, in the usb chain ?

Yes, everything is described here in detail: http://jplay.eu/ml_p...usb-card-femto/

Key improvements are:

1.       Crystek femto clock (phase noise -170dBc/Hz)

2.       Dedicated ultra-low noise linear regulator for the clock

3.       All components on the card are powered by ultra-low noise linear regulators if any of 5V PSU is present - either from DC jack or LP4 (on old revision 1V digital core of USB chip was powered from PCIe lane)

4.      High durability gold plated USB connectors from Amphenol.

Correct - sound is improved even if there are other USB regenerators/reclockers like JCAT USB Isolator or Regen in the signal path

Regards,
Marcin

Thanks Marcin, ordered one. No doubt these changes are really great benefits compared to the already very good previous version :)

I can see everyone sits and listen :) If You think about next upgrade for Your PC transport this new version with femto clock is well spent money. Until today I was thinking that my system is complete already. Changes are not just cosmetic. You get better depth, better separation, more colours, better definition.

Thanks for the report! You are lucky to be one of the first customers to listen to the new JCAT USB Card FEMTO. Enjoy! :)
