Hi, I finally succeeded in playing with Hibernate mode. Although I have been very much impressed by the sound improvements with JPLAY so far, I expected a great deal of "further" improvement with Hibernate mode, which turns off most activities of PC, except for JPLAY streaming.

However, the results of Hibernate mode ON turned out to be inferior to OFF. Most advantages that I gained by JPLAY introduction seem to be lost with ON, so now I use OFF, for the time being.

Does anyone have similar experiences? Does this commonly happen with Windows 10, Single PC? Or, is this really exceptional case? Do you think of any reasons and remedies?

My configurations are as below,

Server:       MinimServer on QNAP HS-210

Controller:  Linn Kinsky or Linn Kazoo on iPad

PC:            Single PC with a normal usage note book of DELL with i5, 8GB, Windows 10 64bit, LAN cable connected

DAC:         Pioneer N-70A (a network audio player), USB-DAC used for JPLAY

USB cable:CNU-1, made by myself, cheeTarh Consulting, #1&4 are disconnected, (N-70A do not require BUS POWER)

via.:           KS Pioneer N-70A/ N-50A USB Audio

Mode:       ULTRAstream

DAC Link: 170 Hz seems maximum

Throttle:  ON

sincerely

I have the same thing using singlepc with hibernate mode. I think hibernate mode is only recommended for dual setup for best results.

Dear geekuix,

Thanks for your reply. I am relieved to know that I am not the only one to have experienced the phenomenon; Hibernate can be worse with single PC. I have also received similar suggestion from JPLAY Japanese Desk Support, "Use Hibernate for dual PC." I have not advanced yet to dual PC setup, though.

I would like to know a little more on this issue. How common does this happen in what circumstances. Then we can clearly say that Hibernate mode is NOT recommended for single PC setup, and that would benefit new comers and beginners.

geekuix,

I would like to confirm that you used WindowsServer2012R2 for single PC to witness inferior sounds by Hibernate mode, right? Mine was Windows 10, so it seems that OS does not matter.

To everyone,

If you have experiences in Hibernate mode with single PC setup, I would really appreciate it, if you would simply comment that...

With single PC setup, Hibernate mode is better/ worse,

In such and such circumstances;

 sincerely,

I have the same thing using singlepc with hibernate mode. I think hibernate mode is only recommended for dual setup for best results.

Just the opposite here.... Hibernate works perfect with single PC using JPlay Mini...

Even with Windows Server, A/O, and a fairly well-tuned computer server, I would not listen seriously without hibernate mode.

Server: Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H, I5-4670t, NOFAN CR-95c, 2x4 GB Corsair, TeraDak 210 ATX LPS,  , 32GB OS SSD (battery), 256GB +500GB SSD's w/LPS for primary music (all WAV files), SSD's use PPA red thin SATA cables and suspension blocks, PPA V2 USB card (LPS).
Software: WIN2012 core/AO, JPlay6, Mini, Total Commander:
Source: PPA V2 USB card (LPS)  > PPA dual USB cable > Intona Industrial USB isolator > PPA 17CM red USB cable > Tanly DDC via HDMI (Wireworld Starlight 5.2, 0.3M) i2S > Audio-GD NOS7.

Thank you for your information, motberg!

As I though that the use of JPLAY mini could be the key difference, I was going to try JPLAY mini. But, I remembered and reconfirmed that with JPLAY mini, Hibernate mode does not properly work. The display closes, no sound comes, and if I touch the mouse pad, the display opens, which means Hibernation failed.

To geekuix,

if you have time, could you please try, JPLAY mini? Does it work with Hibernate mode? How is the sounds with Hibernate ON/OFF?

I too run a single PC, and hibernate mode is an absolute must.  I get more clarity and dynamics in hibernate mode.  I only use JPLAY Streamer.

I have at times had issues where hibernate mode was worse sounding.  I think I was using different settings in AO that was causing the issues.

JPLAY Femto Setup: Single PC (Intel S1200KPR/XEON based), Windows Server 2016 GUI, JPLAY Femto, UltraStream engine (DAC Link = 500Hz, KS, and Hibernate), Motherboard USB port to DAC. HD-Plex linear power supply powering PC. Music library stored locally on OS 2.5” HDD (2TB Western Digital Blue, 5,400RPM). UPnP control point: Bubble UPnP or fidata.

Dear TJHUB,

Thank you very much for your information. Adding you to "motberg," now, it is clearly wrong to say, "Hibernate mode should not be used for single PC setup." This also means that I may be able to improve the sounds of Hibernate mode with single PC setup...

I am quite new to PC audio, as I had been using network audio players, and my knowledge is focused on improving the sound of network (player) audio. So, I do not know what is an AO. Does this stand for Audio Optimizer, such as Fidelizer? I would like to know more details about your experiences, as you are rare person to have experienced both situation; Hibernate worse and better. As much as you remember is fine, and much better than nothing...

sincerely from JAPAN (where is everyone...)
