Hi, I just started JPLAY a few days ago, and have been very much impressed by JPLAY's incredibly good sounds. It seems that JPLAY substitues limited available current network adaptor assemblies, with more processing-power. As for PCM upto DXD (352.8kHz 24 bit) , there are not much problems that I cannot handle by myself, so far. But for DSD, I am stuck. When I try to play DSD, Kinsky and N-70A seem to be working, but I only hear slight noises from speakers.

My configurations are,

Server:       MinimServer on QNAP HS-210

Controller:  Linn Kinsky or Linn Kazoo on iPad

PC:            DELL with i5, 8GB, Windows 10 64bit, Wi-Fi connected, no LAN cable at this moment

DAC:         Pioneer N-70A (a network audio player) , N-70A should be able to play DSD5.6 by D.O.P. via. USB-DAC

USB cable:CNU-1, made by myself, cheeTarh Consulting, #1&4 are disconnected, (N-70A do not require BUS POWER)

via.:           KS Pioneer N-70A/ N-50A USB Audio

Mode:       ULTRAstream

DAC Link: 170 Hz seems maximum

Files:         DSF2.8/ 5.6MHz files mostly purchased from Native DSD.com. As I read that DSF should be converted to DFF for JPLAY, I did it, but with no improvement.

If there is a similar entry before, please kindly advise, so.

sincerely,

Where did you read that? Is not needed...

Regarding your issue - did you set MinimServer to transcode DSD to DoP as described in jplay.eu/manual?

Dear Josef,

It is my honor for me to be able to speak with you.

As for unnecessary conversion of DSF to DFF, I read it when I was searching for information about how to play DSD. I cannot tell where it was, now though...But I am sure that the comment was made by one of you two...I may be wrong, and the comment might have been made long ago. So, let's forget about it.

As for the transcoding of DSD to DoP, actually, I did set, like dsf: dopwav... (I am forgettable, thses days) , as you see the attached screen shot of MinimWatch. Then, do you think of anything else? I hope that I attached the shot appropriately...Oh, I am not eligiable for shot...OK!

sincerely,

Dear Marcin_gps,

Hi, very nice to speak with you!

Let me explain...I was going to attach the screeshot, (using DropBox as URL required,) but when I tried to post, a message came in that I am not eligible for photo function. So, I posted by deleting the screenshot.

Would it be possible for you to allow me to attach the screenshot? I am new here, and do not know much about the rules.

sincerely,

Please let me continue...

I only use FLAC, WAV, and DSF. I do not use lossy MP3 or AAC, etc...

For FLAC, I use FLAC uncompressed, as it sounds much better with DLNA than FLAC compressed. Yesterday, I confirmed that this is the case with JPLAY, as well. So, I assume WAV sounds better, but for classical music the "Composer" tag is indispensable. So, I keep using FLACuc.

For album art, I delete it from the tag, and put Folder.jpg in the album folder, as it sounds better with DLNA. I assume that same thing can be said with JPLAY.

Let's get back how to play DSD...

sincerely

Strings in MinimStreamer look ok, so the problem lies elsewhere. What settings do you use in JPLAYsettings panel?

Realtek ASIO? That won't work with DSD and not sure if it works at all for any format with JPLAY..

DSD can be played via DoP only via JPLAY and that requires KS

If you connect DAC, please try lowering DAC Link...

Let me continue...,

My system is very simple using QNAP as MinimServer, and Windows 10 for JPLAY Streamer, as seen in my first post. So, the issue seems to be Pioneer's convertiblities with JPLAY, isn't it?

I will attach an iPad screenshot, when I try to play DSD2.8MHz. It says that it is playing DoP 176.4kHz/ 24 bit. If I try DSD5.6MHz, it says DoP 352.8kHz. However, only white noise (with very small music behind) can be heard from the speakers.

Like I said: try reducing DAC Link. If that does not help I'd also try BitStream 24

Thanks, Marcin,

I will try reducing DAC Link and if necessary, BitStream 24, and let you know the outcomes.

Dear Marcin,

I tried both of below, but unfortunately, I still hear white noises. iPad shows the same things, too.

  DAC Link:   -1Hz

  BitStream:   Force 24 Bit

Please kindly advise if there is something else I should try.

Now I am checking if Pioneer N-70A is really able to play DoP by USB-DAC...it says, so here.

Sorry this is in Japanese, but if you scroll down near to the bottom you would understand it with some English letters.
